I remember in high school I used to be in Academic Decathlon, the theme was The Pioneer Spirit. Anyway, when we studied music I came across what is now one of my favorite songs, Barber’s Adagio for Strings. Just a powerful, stunning, really sad composition. And I later learned they played this song during the announcement of FDR’s death. To use such a powerful song to mark an end made me want to know everything about FDR and what he meant to people. And seeing this photo brings that back again. Time to check out some more biographies on this man and his awesome wife because I thinking they were a pretty big deal.
